A damaged and unstable book from the 17th century. The headcap was deteriorated and endband had become detached.
The surrounding leather was lifted and
Japanese tissue was fitted to the area.
The endband was re-shaped through localized humidification and gentle manipulation. The loose
threads were secured with paste.
Tackets were added to provide mechanical attachment of the repairs to the book. These replicated tie-downs which had attached the endband originally. These were toned after sewing so the color could match the leather on the outside, and the endband threads on the inside.
